Elanthoor Sree Mahavishnu Temple
Sree Mahavishnu Temple is a centuries old temple situated at Elanthoor. This was once owned by Peruvam Devaswam.
Local History has it that this temple was attacked by dacoits and its valuables were Looted. They also destroyed the Flagmast and the Bali kallu. After the incident, it was abandoned for many years. However, in 2012, the temple was renovated, and ritualistic consecration ceremony was performed. It is believed that 'Pradosha Vrata' (One who undertakes this Vrata fasts on that day and keeps vigil at night after the fast is over. Taking bath an hour before sunset, the worshipper first performs a preliminary worship of Lord Siva, together with all the others of His divine family, namely, Parvati, Ganesha, Skanda and Nandi.) was performed here.
Sree Bhagavathikkunnu Devi Temple is situated on the eastern direction around 200 meters far from Sree Mahavishnu temple. There is an ancient pond known as Pervam pond in front of this temple. Years ago, this shrine was surrounded by paddy fields and ponds. Recently a newly constructed road separated them into two. Decades ago, the pooja ceremony of the Bhagavathikkunnu Devi temple were done only after pooja rituals of Sree Mahavishnu Temple. Lord Vishnu is depicted with four hands holding Shanku (Conch), Gadha (Mace), Sudarshan Chakra (a spinning, disk-like weapon) and Thamara (Lotus) in each.
The consecration day of the temple is observed on Rohini Nakshatra (Rohini Star) in the Malayalam month of Medam, as a prelude to the ten-day long Dashavathara Charthu maholsavam. The ritual of Dashavathara Chandanam Charthal is done by devotees.
