Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple

Ambalappuzha sri krishna temple is a hindu temple in Alappuzha. It is believed that Ambalappuzha sree krishna temple was built by the local ruler Chembakaseri Pooram Thirunal Devanarayan in the 17th centuary AD. The statue of Ambalapuzha is likened to the form of Vishnu’s Prthasarathi, holding a whip in his right hand and a conch in his left. During the raids of Tipu Sulthan in 1789, the idol of Lord Krishna from the Guruvayur temple was brought to the Ambalapuzha temple for safe keeping for 12 years.

The Payasam served here is extremely admired and popular among devotees as it's a sweet pudding which is made of rice and milk. There is an interesting legend behind making this pudding as it is believed that Guruvayoorappan reaches daily at this temple to have Palpayasa Nedyam.
