Anthimahakalan Kavu Temple

The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Bhardrakali, the temple is famous for Lord Shiva who is in the form of Anthimahakalan (Kiratha).

The dharu bimbam or murti of Anthimahakalan wears pashupatastra and the murti of Goddess Bhadrakali is kannadi shila prathishta. The Dharika vadham is a traditional art form which is performed at the annual festival.

Every year in the month of March, 'Chelakkara Vela' is celebrated. The Vela (Festival) is famous for the fire works. The Festival takes place with the participation of 5 Deshams (5 Villages) viz. Chelakkara Desham, Kurumala Desham, Thonnurkara Desham, Pangarapilly Desham & Venganellur Desham.

As per history, the temple belonged to Nambidi. The popular belief is that the Anthimahakalan is the Shiva Chaithanyam that arrived here from Kodungallur. The prathishta of Goddess Bhadrakali was done later.

The festival begins on the first Saturday in the Malayalam month of Meenam (Mid March) and ends on the second Saturday in the same month.
