Chottanikkara Devi Temple

Chottanikkara Devi temple is a famous shrine of Goddess Lakshmi, also known as Sree Bhagavati. It is believed that Lakshmi was residing at Chottanikara with the Supreme Deity Paramatman Maha Vishnu. In terms of temple architecture, the Chottanikkara temple is the ultimate testimony of the ancient Vishwakarma sthapathis (wooden sculpture) along with Sabarimala. Sree Mahamaya Bhagavati (goddess of Power) is one of the most popular goddesses in Kerala, the supreme Mother Goddess of Hinduism. The Goddess Chottanikkara is worshipped in three different form in the temple: like Maha Saraswati in the morning, Maha Lakshmi at noon, in the evening blue as the great kali.

Festivals

Makam Thozhal is one of the major festivals in Chottanikkara Devi Temple, which is celebrated in the Malayalam month Kumbham (February-March). And Vrichika mandala mahotsavam in Vrichika, the annual festival in Kumbham and Vishnu in Medam are the other main festivals. Navaratri Aghosham is another important festival in Chottanikkara temple, and Vidyarambham will be held on the 10th day of Navaratri Utsavam. The other days of Navaratri namely Durgashtami and Mahanavami are also celebrated.

How To Reach

Air : International Air Port is at Nedumbassery, near Aluva, about 22 kms away from Ernakulam, Kochi.

Rail :The nearest station is at Ernakulam about 17km away from Chottanikkara. The two railway stations in Kochi are Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town.

Road : KSRTC Central Bus station is near the Ernakulam Junction railway station.
