Sree Anthimahakaalan Temple

Sree Anthimahakaalan temple is one of the oldest temple in Kulappully.

It is situated at a naturally beautiful & picturesque background of big natural valley and a very big temple pond. It is a very well maintained temple. The darshanam of Chelakkara Anthimahakalan Kavu is towards east.

The dharu bimbam or murti of Anthimahakalan wears pashupatastra and is in the form of a forest dweller (Kirathamoorthy). The murti of Goddess Bhadrakali is Kannada Shila Prathishta.
The temple has many historic significance which mainly lies in the last century. Chera Kingdom was split into many small states. Among them a group of Nair families were powerful and had a strong army which were very loyal to the king and the kingdom. As a reward king granted a large geographic area to them with full power. These families ruled the area for years. Their family worshipped Anthimahakalan as their family god and they built a temple for the deity.

Worshippers of this temple can also feed the fish in the pond. Fishing in the holy pond is strictly prohibited.

Festivals

The annual festival in the temple is the Anthimahakalan Kavu Vela. The festival begins on the first Saturday of the Malayalam month of Meenam (Mid March) and ends on the following Saturday. Thalapoly Maholsawam is conducted in the month of December.
