Sri Ramaswamy Temple

Sri Ramaswamy Temple is otherwise known as Dakshina Ayodhya. This is one of the rarest 'Mahakshetrams' (Major Temple) in Kerala. The temple is situated on the banks of the Karimpuzha River, a major tributary of the Bharathapuzha River. The main Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) is circular in shape. This temple has one of the rarest Sreerama idols in India. The idol depicts the ever-sacrificing Lord Rama, renouncing on the shores of the Sarayu River before his ascent to heaven. The main deity of the temple, Sri Ramaswamy is sitting facing west.

Legend has it that Lord Rama renounced his life here in the river Karimpuzha. Rama is accompanied by Hanuman only during his last moments. This justifies the presence of Lord Hanuman’s presence near the northern side of the Thidappalli. Later, the deity of Hanuman was placed inside the temple.
