Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to lord Vishnu. The temple is now run by a trust headed by royal family of Travancore.
Temple is built in a tangled fusion of the Kerala style and Tamil style (kovil) of architecture, because the temple located in the neighboring state of Tamilnadu. Featuring high walls and elegant carvings are the most alluring part of this 16th century Gopura. In addition, architecturally to some extent, the temple is facsimile of the Adikesava Perumal Temple located in Thiruvattar, Kanyakumari district.
While the Moolasthanam of the temple is the Ananthapuram Temple in Kumbala in Kasargod district.

Festivals

There are many festivals in related to this temple and the major festivals are bi-annual. The festival Alpashy which is in October/November and the Panguni festival which is in Tamil month Panguni, March/April, lasts for ten days each. The festivals culminate with the Aarat (holy bath) procession to the Shankumugham Beach. The word Aarat refers to the purificatory Immersion of the deities of the temple in sea. This event take place in the evening. This festival lasts for One of the major annual festivals related to Padmanabha temple is the Navaratri festivels. The time period this festival is 9 days. The famous Swathy music festival is held every year during this festival. And another biggest festival in this temple is laksha deepam, which means hundred thousand lamps. This festival is unique and commences once in 6 years.
