Aravukadu Sreedevi Temple

Aravukad Sreedevi Temple is ancient shrine dedicated to Mother Goddess Bhadrakali. The Idol here is represented in her fierce form – the one assumed to kill the mighty demon Daruka. The popular belief is that the Goddess washed her sword filled with blood of the demon in the pond located here. This pond is still conserved very holy.

The idol is designed out of Krishna Sila. Although the main murti present here is of the fierce form of goddess, she takes the motherly form Saraswathi, Lakshmi and Parvati to bless her children. The Devi of Aravukad temple is said to be the sister of the Devi of Kannichakulangara and Kodungalloor.

In Ancient times this Temple was in the custody of Brahmins but during the invasion of Tipu Sultan they left the place in fear, handing over the Temple to a family residing nearly in Komarathussery. They in turn handed it over to five branches of S.N.D.P Union. Subsequently these S.N.D.P branches handed it over to all Hindus of 10 ‘Karas’ south from Neerkunnam to north up to Kalarkode.
