Mullikulangara Devi Temple

Mullikulangara Devi Temple is a Hindu temple located in Umbernadu, Mavelikara, dedicated to the goddess Mullikulangara Bhagavathy, who is believed to be the sister of Chettikulangara Amma.

According to the legend, Mullikulangara temple used to have Kettukazhcha, a popular ritual procession, but it was not as famous and elaborate as at Chettikulangara temple. Mullikulangara Bhagavathi accused Chettikulangara Amma of being responsible for this lack of importance. Out of jealousy and revenge, Chettikulangara Bhagavathi was offered a cold reception during her annual visit to Mullikulangara Bhagavathi's temple. Upset by the sister's response, Chettikulangara Bhagavathy returned immediately.

After this incident, Vasuri (smallpox) broke out in different parts of Mullikulangara, and people attributed it to the ongoing feud between the sisters. The villagers prayed for reconciliation between the sisters, and both the Bhagavathis met at Lahe Mukku, a place between the two temples, and spent a night there forgetting their differences. In order to commemorate this event and to please the goddesses, people offer a joint Anpoli at Lahe Mukku during the festival of Chettikulangara.
