Dakshina Mookambika Temple

This is an ancient Temple situated in North Paravur Ernakulam. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati (the deity of learning). One of the unique features of the temple is that it is built in a pool of Lotus blooms.

Legend has it that the Thampuran (Ruler) of Paravur was a great devotee of Mookambika Devi and visited Mookambika every year. When he was too old to travel, his grief and prayers to the Goddess led to a dream/vision where the Goddess told him to build this temple near his palace and worship her there. Thampuran followed her instructions, built a temple at Paravur and installed the Goddess.

The Goddess Chaturbahu is holding an akshamala on her right hand, a water lily on her left hand and a book on her left hand. The Goddess, who was brought from Kollur by the devotee Paravur Thampuran, removes the darkness of ignorance from the devotees and reigns the light of wisdom.
