Iravil Sree Mahavishnu Temple

Iravil Sree Mahavishnu temple is located in the Pulloor Periya village in Kasargod district in Kerala. The temple is noted for the exquisite sculptures and intricate carvings. The temple’s wooden ceilings are decorated with colorful floral motifs and mural paintings.

The temple was one of the richest since ancient times until it was ransacked and destroyed by Tipu's invading army. The idol was thrown into the the pond nearby. The idol was later fished out. It was found that the idol did not sustain any damages. The temple was later rebuilt and the same idol was kept in the newly built temple.

The form of Mahavishnu worshipped here is that of Sri Krishna who gave darshan to Devaki in the prison of Kamsa. The moolasthan of the deity is the Chengulam Kavu.
