Iringole Bhagavathy Temple

Iringole Kavu is a forest temple dedicated to Goddess Durga is one of the 108 Durga temples in the state., situated in Kunnathunad Taluk of Ernakulam district. There is abundant Flora and fauna. An extensive biodiversity is the specialty of the grove.

As per Legend, the goddess is considered as the eighth born child of Devaki and Vasudeva who ever imprisoned by Kamsa. It is said that the newborn rose up to take the form of goddess Durga. Kamsa attempted to kill the infant and the goddess made her appearance with a lighting; the place where the lighting struck was called Irunnol, which later became Iringol.

The Goddess changes from Saraswati in the morning to Vanadurga in the afternoon and later in the evening becomes Bhadrakali. Unlike other temples, here only female elephants participate in the festival. Currently, the temple is under the Travancore Devaswom Board.
