Kanhirangad Vaidyanatha Temple

The temple is a lord Siva Shrine where the deity is worshipped as Vaidhya Nathan. The almighty here is in the form of a physician who cures all the ailments. The 11th Century temple has a very unique architectural style. It is believed that the Deity at the temple is self-manifested.

The temple is famous for the powerful healing abilities hence pilgrims visit this temple with a belief that their diseases will be cured. The temple is known as Kanhirangad as a huge Kanjiram maram (tree) in front of the temple. There are several stories of people getting cured of incurable diseases by praying at this temple. Many people facing skin diseases regularly come to this temple and by performing Dhara get cured of their diseases.

As per local history, the temple was built by Chola King Shatasoman for Antharjanams (females of palace) to sit and meditate. It is also said that Chola King Shatasoman had donated the temple to people of Kashyapa gotra.

In the local region, it constitutes one of the trinity of temples held in high regard, one being the Taliparamba Shiva temple and the other the Trichambaram Sri Krishna Temple. Sree Vaidyanatha and the deities of Taliparamba (Sree Raja Rajeswara) and Trichambaram (Lord Krishna) are inter-connected and administered by a single authority, Thaliparambu-Trichambaram-Kanhirangad Devasom.

Festivals

The temple annually celebrates two festivals in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (mid-December – mid-January). One is the Thiruvathira festival and the other is the Kaliyattam (Theyyam) festival. Maha Sivarathri.


Main Offerings

Dhara, Ksheeradhara (pouring of milk on the murti), Venna Nivedyam (butter offering) is considered good for pregnancy difficulties.
