Sree Shankaranarayana Temple
Ramanthali Shankaranarayana temple is located at Ramanthali in Kannur district, Kerala. The temple is the northernmost Tali temple in Kerala. The deity worshipped in the temple is Shankaranarayana. The left portion of the murti worshipped in the sanctum is of Vishnu and the right portion is of Shiva. It is only thali temple where the god Sankaranarayana in its full structure.
Lord Shankaranarayana is thus worshipped by both Vaishnavites and Shaivities as a form of the Supreme God, as well as being a figure of worship for other Hindu traditions in general. The murti is nearly 6 feet tall and is made out of panchaloha. Such a tall idol of Sankaranarayana in Panchaloha is seen only here. The sanctum sanctorum is in Gajaprishta form (the sanctum is in the shape of an elephant.)
Local history states that the temple belonged to Kodiyam, Puzhukkunadu and Kambungadu Nambiar families and Koyithatta Pothuval. Later it came under the control of Taliyil Thirumumbu.
Inscriptions belonging to 928 – 1132 CE period were discovered from the temple.
This Swamy here is a Santhana Soubhagya varadayakan (Blessing).
