Neerputhoor Temple

The ancient temple is situated in Puthoor village in Malappuram district in Kerala. The sanctum sanctorum, where the presiding deity Lord Shiva resides, is in the form of Shivalinga and is fully filled with water throughout the year and is believed to be the presence of Goddess Ganga. The Sanctum Sanctorum is round in shape. The Archeological Survey of India estimates that the Temple is more than 3000 years old.

It is believed that Lord Siva exists over her in Swayamboo form. Mahadeva is also known as Neerputhurappan. Devotees are allowed to have darshan of Lord Mahadev only from Pattupura. It is not possible to circumambulate here as water (Ganga Thirtha) is filled up in the Nalampalam. It is only during the summer months that devotees are allowed to enter the temple as the water recedes during the summer season.

The Temple is now under the aegis of Malabar Devaswom Board.
