Pishari Kovil Bhagavathy Temple
Pishari Kovil is one of the ancient temples in Tripunithura. This temple is one among the 108 "Durgalayas" praised by "Adi Shankara".
The legend surrounding Pishari Kovil is steeped in mythology and spirituality. According to the story, a Brahmin named Pishara brought the divine spark of the famous Goddess of Knowledge, Mookambika of Kollur, to this holy place. After spending most of his life in Mookambika, Pishara returned to his native place during his old age and decided to spend the rest of his lifetime here.
It is said that the goddess appeared before Pishara as "Balambika" and gave him darshan. The place where this holy event took place can still be seen in the north-west corner of the temple, where the swayambhoo idol is kept as "Sreemoolastahanam". Pishara himself has been installed at the south-west corner of the temple in front of the Sreemoolastahanam.
The temple is also believed to be closely linked to Sree Poornathrayeesa, who is considered the elder brother of the goddesses of Chottanikkara and Pishari temples. In honor of this relationship, Lord Poornathrayeesan visits the temple during the Para Procession and a combined pooja is held in the Mandapam for both Lord Poornathrayeesan and Pishari Kovil Amma. Overall, Pishari Kovil is an important center of worship for devotees seeking spiritual solace and blessings.
