Shree Kavi Subrahmanya Temple

Kavi Subrahmanya Temple is an ancient temple situated near to Kapri, Kasargod District, Kerala. The Temple is more than 800 years old.

According to local history, the temple was originally located elsewhere. The temple authorities decided to relocate the temple and prayed to the lord to show them a new site. To determine the location, they broke a coconut and decided that wherever the half of the coconut fell would be the site chosen by the lord. The half part of the coconut fell nearly half a kilometer away from the original site. It is said that the name 'Vorkady' originated from the words 'Oru Gadi', which means 'one half of the coconut'. The temple authorities and villagers then built a new temple at the site where half of the coconut had fallen.
