Sree Bala Subrahmanya Swamy Temple

Umayanalloor Sree Bala Subramanya Swamy temple is located at Umayanalloor, in Mayyanad, Kollam district, Kerala. The main deity worshipped in the temple is the child form of Muruga – Sree Bala Subramanya Swamy. The Bala Subramanian Idol faces the western direction same as that of palani and the temple's prathistha is believed to done by 'Shankaracharya'.

The 8-day annual festival concludes with aarattu on Karthika nakshatra in Meenam month. Kuthira Kettu utsavam is held here. Another unique ritual is Anaval Pidutham – Devotees run after an elephant and catch its tail, symbolizing the childhood pranks between the deities Subramanyan and Ganesha.

Once in three years the Devi worshipped in the temple is taken in procession to a nearby paddy field.

As per history, the temple was built by King Keralavarma of Deshinganattu for his daughter. The temple was also associated with Umayamma Rani (late 1600s).

The temple was managed by Umayanalloor, Akavoor and Umamopali Manas.

It is a famous temple for one of its religious practice of ‘Aana Vaalu Pidittam’ during the temple's utsavam
