Subramanya Temple

Sri Subramanya Temple The Subramanya temple lies on a small hill near Munnar. The main deity in the temple is Lord Karthikeya/Subramanya/Murugan.

This temple located on a small hill was worshipped by the Muthuvan tribal community in the past. Later it was closed for a long time. But seeing the pathetic condition, the temple was renovated by the members of Travancore royal family when they came to visit Munnar during the summer season. Earlier Nambudiris held the tantric rights of the temple.

The temple is presently administered by Tamil Brahmans, who hold three poojas during the day. The morning Pooja is called “Usha Pooja,” noon pooja is called “Ucha Pooja” and the ‘Attazha pooja’ at twilight. The temple is also known throughout Munnar for its joy-full temple celebrations.
