Thakazhy Sree Dharma Sastha Temple

Thakazhi Sree Dharmasastha temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Aiyappa in Thakazhi. It is 6 KMs from Ambalapuzha. This is one of the 108 temples consecrated by Lord Parasurama.
Story has it that the idol in this temple was once installed on a hill named Othera (Otharmala) by Lord Parasurama. During heavy torrential rains, the idol of Lord Aiyappa got dislodged and floated in the rain water and reached Thakazhy, Vilwamangalam Swamiyar was passing this way and saw a huge divine light. He went towards the light and found out the idol of Aiyappa in a pit. With the help of a local magician called Odiyan, he consecrated the idol at the very same place. Due to the brilliant luster of the idol it was also called Udayarkkan (Sun of dawn) Shasthavu, and over time its name changed to Thakazhy Dharma Sasthavu, Later the king of Champakaserry built a temple there.

Valiyenna (a special type of medicinal oil) is a specialty of this temple. This oil has magical powers to cure the diseases of manhood. The medicinal herbs are collected from Othar hill.
