Thrikkuratti Mahadeva Temple

The ancient temple dedicated to Lord Siva is situated in Mannar. It is one of the 108 Siva Temple consecarated by Lord Parasurama. The Sanctum Sanctorum is famous for its workmanship. It is believed that the Mammoth Thrikkuratti Mahadeva Temple compound wall was built by troop of Bhootas of Lord Siva in one night.

The temple is located on the banks of Pampa River. The Temple has two sanctum sanctorum with equal importance, within the same compund. One is Mahadeva temple and other one is Maha Vishnu Temple.

At a special Nada (gate) on east side of the Thrikkuratti temple compound wall, other religious members, in particular, Muslims, present offerings daily basis. This practice is believed to be centuries old and this is considered to be a true embodiment of religious harmony.

There is a Mahavilvam tree with its unique shaped leaves near the temple pond at the North Eastern corner. It is believed that circumambulate (walk all the way round), one round of this tree is equivalent to 3 rounds of Mount Kailas.
