Vadakkan Koyikkal Devi Temple
Vadakkan Koyikkal Devi Kshetram is a 500-year-old temple located near Kayamkulam situated in Puthiyavila village. Sree Parvathy Devi is mainly worshiped in the temple. The specialty of Vadakkan Koyikkal temple is that the Sreekovil or main temple is of two stories. Sree Parvathy the main idol and is placed on the ground floor and Mahadeva (Lord Shiva) is placed on first floor. The architecture of the temple is based on traditional Kerala style with a Chuttambalam, Namaskara Mandap, a two tier Sreekovil and Shrines of Upa Devatas.
Kumbha Bharani is the main festival of temple which is celebrated on the Bharani day of Malayalam calendar month Kubham. This is believed to be the birthday of Vadakkan Koyikkal Devi. This is a festival of 10 days with a kettukazhcha on the ninth day and the tenth day.
Navaha Yagngam is another celebration in Vadakkan Koyikkal Devi temple it is conducted for nine days during April – May months. In these nine days religious ceremonies (poojas) are conducted in the temple and on all the nine days Annadanam (offering food to people) is given in the temple.
