Lalam Sree Mahadeva Temple

Lalam Mahadeva Temple is the oldest temple in Meenachil Taluk. It is situated at the heart of Pala municipality and was once the only temple in the 56 karas or villages of Meenachil. The temple is famous as Dakshina Kasi (Kasi of South). This temple is equivalent to Kasi Viswanatha Temple because of the presence of Lalam river (which flows towards east) and a cremation ground or Smasanam in front of the Temple.

The shrine observes the annual Karkidaka Vavu Bali and Pitru Tarpanam on the Vavu or Amavasya day in Karkidakam month in the Meenachi River. Hundreds of people arrive at the shrine and offer various rituals to their ancestors. Special arrangements are made by temple management for Bali Tharpanam throughout the year especially during Vavu.
