Vezhanganam Shiva Temple

Vezhanganam Mahadeva Temple is believed to be more than 1500 years old. This is the Grama Kshetra (common temple) for 8 karas or villages (Vezhanganam, Choondacherry, Valiyakavumpuram, Thevarupadam, Nariyanganam, Pravithanam, Ullanadu and Kanjiramattam).

Earlier the temple was under Kidangoor Cheruvally Illam and the ownership of this temple was considered as the symbol of rulership over the 8 karas(villages). The place name Vezhanganam is derived from 'Vezhamkanam' which means 'Forest with Elephants'. The presiding deity has been depicted in a Yogi form.
